Currently, China controls a staggering 95% of global primary magnesium production.
This concentration is not a theoretical risk. China has cut off magnesium supply twice already this century, just as it did recently to rare earths. It’s time to take matters into our own hands.

When China cuts us off again, the aluminum industry will cease operations within months, followed shortly by automotive and aerospace manufacturing.
There is no aluminum alloy production, no domestic titanium production, and no steelmaking desulfurization without it. This will decimate the American economy.

Magnesium is formally designated a critical mineral
It is in the same strategic category as rare earth elements, gallium, germanium, scandium, and antimony. Industrial processes need magnesium in far greater volumes, and there is zero US production capacity to fall back on.
The reason Western production capacity disappeared is not because a natural resource ran out
Magnesium salts are abundant in the U.S. Western production capacity halted not because the material ran out, but because no one has fully developed the processing technology needed to produce magnesium economically outside China. Until today.
