Becoming a Magrathean
At Magrathea, our hiring process is designed to be a two-way conversation. While we assess your skills and experience, we also want you to get to know us, our team, and our way of working. Throughout the process, we encourage you to be yourself and ask questions—this is your journey too.
Our typical hiring timeline is around five to six weeks from your initial conversation with a recruiter to a final decision. We’ll keep you updated at every stage so you always know what to expect.
Application Submission
You can apply for one of our open roles, or we may reach out to you directly. Once we receive your application, our recruiting team will review it and reach out if your skills and experience match the role. After applying, you’ll receive a confirmation email, and within one to two weeks, we’ll provide an update on your application status. If successful, we will reach out to schedule a screening call. If you get a rejection this time, we encourage you to apply again in the future.
Screening Call
This is an informal 20-minute video call with our People lead to learn more about you, share insights about Magrathea, and discuss the role. We’ll cover standard questions such as work eligibility and compensation expectations. You’ll also have the opportunity to ask about the hiring process and company culture. If successful, you’ll move on to an interview with the Hiring Manager.
Hiring Manager Interview
This 30 to 45-minute video call focuses on your experience and how it aligns with the role. We’ll discuss your background, skills, and expectations, and you can expect situational questions related to the job. This conversation will help you gain a better understanding of the role and team. After the interview, you’ll receive an update from our People lead.
Onsite Interview
This step gives you deeper insight into Magrathea, your future team, and the way we work. You should expect around three hours of onsite interviews at our Oakland office meeting the team and seeing where the work happens. We’ll share an agenda in advance so you know who you’ll meet. These interviews will assess your professional experience and cultural alignment.
Work Challenge
To help you understand the role and showcase your approach, you’ll complete a take-home assessment. We’ll send you a challenge brief to complete in your own time, allowing you to highlight your problem-solving and working style. The assignment is paid and may take up to two days to complete. Assessments will evaluate both technical and soft skills.
Offer Stage
After the final interviews and work trial, the hiring team will debrief and make a decision. If selected, the People lead will present you with a verbal offer. If not selected, we’ll provide thoughtful feedback to help with future opportunities.
We value diverse skills and perspectives, so if you don’t meet every requirement, we still encourage you to apply. We also strive to provide an equitable hiring experience. If you need any accommodations, please speak with your recruiter.
